Blessed are the poor in spirit for theirs is the kingdom of heaven. Matthew 5:3
Ptóchos: one who crouches and cowers, beggarly, poor, destitute, spiritually poor.
Human brokenness and a poor spirit is something that is mentioned in the Bible, in multiple different places.
These things are considered to be pleasing and acceptable to God. Not because he likes to see us lacking in provision or suffering but because these things produce a recognization of us needing HIM. Jesus tells us those who recognize that they have great spiritual needs are BLESSED because the kingdom of heaven belongs to them.
Think of a homeless person, You pass by them and can physically see their state of being, they are lacking in all resources, shelter, clothing, finances, food, stability, but also there is a lot of emotional Turmoil they are going through they are seeking for help, ever notice when you help a person in need they light up at the fact that someone NOTICED their need for help, well this is how God sees All of us in the spirit, regardless of our social status, fame, riches and material belongings, he sees the brokenness within our hearts and that’s why He sent his son to prepare a way for us to be accepted into HIS home, so we can be protected, provided for, healed, delivered, find true love and riches in CHRIST.
I encourage you all to embrace and encourage this word Ptóchos that can have some negative connotations when looked at in the physical but when we recognize that we are poor and beggarly spiritually and that there is no need to feel ashamed or weak because of this then we will receive the joy of the Lord and truly understand how badly we need him and how it is a daily need, that need never leaves it never goes away. Only Christ can fill those needs. This type of spiritual poverty produces the fruit of a faithful and devout follower and believer of Christ.
